- 01How is barbell weight calculated?
- Add the bar weight to the combined plate weight on both sides. Total = bar + (plates per side × 2). A 45 lb bar with two 45 lb plates on each side equals 225 lb total.
- 02What plates do I need for 225 lbs?
- With a standard 45 lb bar: two 45 lb plates per side. 45 + 90 + 90 = 225 lb. For other targets, use the load reference chart above or enter any weight in the calculator.
- 03What is the Weights page for?
- Lets you configure which plates you actually own. Set any plate size to unlimited, a specific quantity, or unavailable. The calculator then only uses plates from your inventory — essential for home gym setups where you don't have a full commercial plate selection.
- 04How do cable machine pulley ratios work?
- A pulley ratio divides the plate weight to set effective load. At 2:1, 100 lb of plates moves 50 lb at the handle. At 4:1, the same plates move 25 lb. Switch to Cable Machine mode in the calculator above.
- 05Does this calculator work with metric weights?
- Yes. Toggle LBS · KG in the header to switch units. Metric mode defaults to a 20 kg bar with standard metric plates: 20, 15, 10, 5, 2.5, and 1.25 kg.
- 06Why isn't my exact target weight achievable?
- Standard plate denominations cannot hit every number. If your target can't be reached with your available plates, the calculator shows the nearest achievable weight and flags it as approximate.
